This Privacy Policy explains how "Avert" ("we," "our," or "us") collects, uses, and protects your information when you use our mobile application (the "App"). We are committed to protecting your privacy and ensuring transparency about our data practices.
To provide its core features—such as tracking your screen time and preventing you from opening distracting apps—Avert requires specific Android permissions. We are required by Google Play to explain exactly why we need these permissions and how we use them.
Why it is needed: Avert uses the Android Accessibility Service API to detect what application is currently actively running on your screen. This is a core requirement for our application blocking feature.
How it is used: The Accessibility Service monitors the "window content change" event to identify the package name of the app entering the foreground. If the app is on your "Block List" or has exceeded its daily time limit, Avert triggers a fullscreen overlay to prevent access.
Why it is needed: Avert requires App Usage Access to provide you with screen time statistics and to enforce daily application limits.
How it is used: Avert reads your usage statistics to calculate how much time you have spent on individual apps today and over the last week. This data is entirely processed locally on your device to display your personal charts and to lock apps when your customized quotas are reached.
Why it is needed: This permission is required to draw the "Blocked" screen over a restricted app.
How it is used: When Avert detects that you have opened a blocked application (via the Accessibility Service), it immediately displays an overlay on top of that app, preventing you from using it and reminding you of your focus goals.
Local Processing: All sensitive data—including your app blocklists, daily schedules, screen time history, and device unlock counts—is processed and stored locally on your device.
Network Usage: Avert requires internet access to process analytics for app improvements (via PostHog) and to handle potential future premium upgrades. We do not transmit your private application usage habits or personal logs.
